Being a mom or a housewife often comes with juggling a multitude of responsibilities. Among them, feeding the family can be particularly challenging. With all the running around, it is often quite difficult to make healthy meals. As a result, most people resort to ordering fast food, which is unhealthy in the long run. Meal prepping can help in this case and is an effective way to ensure that everyone is eating healthy meals. In this post, I am going to provide seven tips for successful meal prepping that will make healthy eating a breeze.
Plan Your Meals Planning your meals is a vital part of successful meal prepping. First, it ensures that you are eating a well-balanced diet. Sit down to plan the meals for the week or intend the recipe you will be following, so you know what groceries to get. You can even create a digital calendar for this to have everything in one place. This will save you time having to rummage through recipe books during the week. Invest in Quality Food Storage Containers Investing in good food storage containers, such as glass ones, can make a world of difference for meal prepping. Not only will they keep your food fresh and free from odors, but they are also easy to use for on a go meals. These meal prep containers are one of my favorite ways to have food ready to grab and go in the mornings. Cook in Bulk Cooking in bulk saves time and money when meal prepping. Make a double portion of what you need, then freeze the rest. Try preparing stews, chili, or soup as they are versatile and easy to freeze in portions. Make sure you label the food with ingredients and when you made it to ensure you use it up before the expiry date. I love saving money and be more self-sustainable with these reusable freezer bags vs disposable baggies. Chop Your Veggies in Advance Chop your veggies in advance to save time during the week. You can chop the vegetables during the weekend and store them in the refrigerator. This makes it easy to add healthy ingredients to meals like stir-fries or salads. Do Not Forget about Healthy Snacks Adding healthy snacks to your meal prep is a great way to make sure you are eating healthy throughout the day. Prepare snacks like fresh fruit (such as berries or apple slices), unsalted nuts, or homemade energy bars. Experiment with New Recipes Meal prepping should not be boring, so experiment with new recipes and flavors. Having a repertoire of recipes that your family loves will make meal prep less of a chore and more of a fun activity. Also, adding variety to meals is a great way to ensure that you are eating all of the necessary vitamins and minerals. Set Aside Enough Time for Meal Prep Successful meal prepping requires time and energy, so set aside dedicated time on your calendar to prep your meals. Making time to focus on your meals also means that you will eat better throughout the week, which is great for your overall health. Meal prepping can seem daunting at first, but with these tips, you can ease the process and enjoy healthy meals throughout the week. Proper planning, investing in quality food storage containers, cooking in bulk, chopping vegetables, preparing healthy snacks, experimenting with new recipes, and setting aside enough time are some of the best ways to make meal prepping easy, fun, and ultimately, successful. So, give it a try and let me know how you’ve been embracing meal prepping! xoxo, Melissa
